The “VitriSafe” is an embryo carrier device consisting of a large gutter in
which a small quantity of CPs (< 1 µl) containing the blastocysts can be
deposited. Before plunging the biological material into liquid nitrogen (LN2),
the “VitriSafe” is completely inserted into a high security 0.3 ml straw (CBS,
Cryo Bio System, France).
Welding of both edges of the outer protective straw took place before being
plunged into LN2. This ensures a hermetic isolation of the sample against LN2.
Under these conditions, the cooling rate decreased from > 20,000°C/min to ~ <
1,300°C/min.
